Damn, why do I feel so teary-eyed watching AV...?
Speaking of which, when I first saw this film last month, I didn't feel much. The lead actress, "Miya Akari," is great, but Das! isn't the most important production company in the WIll Group, and with all the stills showing the extremely evil boss "Nakata Ippei"—I figured it was another humiliation project, that's what I thought.
But after the film came out, I couldn't stop watching!
It wasn't humiliation, not at all. In the film, actor Nakata Ippei completely lacked the menacing aura he usually projected as a villainous boss; instead, he exuded a deep sorrow. He and Mitani Akari were a couple with a 20-year age gap, their relationship beginning as teacher-student. Initially, Nakata Ippei thought Mitani Akari was just pretending to be familiar with him, but they only started dating after she graduated from university. A slideshow in their home projected their lives from middle school to university and their wedding, with Nakata Ippei explaining every detail to Mitani Akari in a sentimental tone, but Mitani Akari only showed a half-understanding expression…
It turns out she suffered from amnesia!
According to the doctor's diagnosis, due to brain damage from a previous car accident, Miya Akari's memory would regress to around age 15, before she met her husband. This is why the title is "妻はもうすぐ私を忘れる。(My wife is going to forget me.)". So, while her condition was still relatively good, Miya Akari wrote down her thoughts and feelings, and then, with a happy heart, had sex with Nakata Ippei.
And then she recovered? No, no, no, her condition worsened. Her memory regressed to when she was 20, and she acted like a passionate young girlfriend, eagerly taking Nakata Ippei's manhood and having sex again. But when she went to the doctor again, she couldn't even remember what questions the doctor asked. Her perception of time also regressed to 2012 (actually, she had her episode at the beginning of the film; Miya was 28 years old after three years of marriage, but at that time she thought she was 25). After returning home, she cried because she didn't want to forget the husband who had given her happiness, and she had sex with Nakata Ippei even more intensely…

According to their original plan, Nakata Ippei took Miya back to her hometown. Looking at her unfamiliar gaze, he was overwhelmed with mixed emotions, feeling as if he had just woken from a dream. Back home, he found Miya's card. It said that although Nakata Ippei was bothered by their age difference, Miya Akari had fallen for him at first sight because he resembled her father, who had died in a car accident—warm, reliable, and reassuring. And even though she could no longer remember the person she loved most, Miya Akari said, "My body will always remember you (Nakata Ippei)." "~

This is truly a rare gem of a drama lately. The director is Asagiri Kiyoshi. I know the plot is very similar to Son Ye-jin's "A Moment to Remember," and that's precisely Asagiri Kiyoshi's forte—adaptation. It's hard to imagine that Nakata Ippei could transform from an utterly disgusting father into a deeply affectionate husband. Looking at the stills and promotional videos, you'd never guess that Mitani Akari portrays each sexual encounter with a different feeling, especially the empty expression during her first intercourse before complete amnesia… My god, who said Jinguji Nao and Kano Yura are drama queens? Mitani Akari is amazing too!
Seriously, this is a must-see.
