Senior is awesome!
What was the most eye-catching news yesterday? It was none other than my senior from university, "Tung Chung-yen," who joined SWAG to film a movie. Although I don't know if he's actually connected with the actresses, he's clearly very muscular and has a strong physique. He looks menacing in the film; if he actually went down and crashed into someone, I'm afraid he'd break them in half!
Suddenly, I fell into a time tunnel…
The year was 1993. I was a freshman at university. Based on our love for baseball, a few classmates and I formed the first baseball team in the Department of Journalism at National Chengchi University. There was a problem, though—the journalism department at NCCU didn't have as many girls as other departments. Although we had a very pretty manager, our class only had a little over ten students. If anyone got injured, we couldn't play. So, we asked our classmates living in the dorms for help… We invited a few senior students to join the team:
That's right, that's when I met Tong Zhongyan.
He was the strong hitter we were looking forward to: Back in our university days, working out wasn't popular, but our senior was a regular at the gym, developing a fierce, muscular physique. Watching him swing the bat like a toothpick, we all thought a big guy was about to appear!
But damn it, he couldn't even hit the ball!
We lost our first practice match because our main hitter couldn't hit the ball. After the match, everyone felt their performance was lacking, and the senior student vowed to continue strengthening his physique, increasing his strength, and hitting the ball farther.
That's roughly how I got to know him. Back then, he was good friends with us dorm students, and on the court, he often lifted the younger students up on his head and wrestled them—just kidding, with his strength, who could beat him? But no one was afraid to play with him because he wasn't a bad person, quite down-to-earth, a bit rough around the edges, unpretentious, and just talked big when he sat down, which suited everyone's taste.
Then, in the blink of an eye, we graduated. Working in the same television news industry, the name Tong Zhongyan seems both close and distant to me. However, from what my colleagues say, I'm struck by how different he seems from the person I knew from the baseball team. Some say he's very "smart," always managing to get exclusive stories; others say he's very expressive and adept at gaining the attention of his superiors; still others tell me his relationship with his partner isn't good, and they might get divorced…

What happened next is well-known: he hosted a political talk show, entered politics, became the subject of gossip magazines, and finally, after the glamour faded, he returned to his roots and became SWAG's star.
This isn't a sponsored post; it's because seeing someone from the same department become a kindred spirit prompted me to write down my memories of him. To me, the self-proclaimed "Taiwanese A-Tong" who then became a legislator was completely unfamiliar. The Tung Chung-yen who is now unleashing his golden power is closer to the Tung Chung-yen I remember. He's just as incredibly strong, just as muscular, just as charging forward like a bull…
