Japan is a major player in the AV industry, with an astonishing annual output value. However, behind the glamour, scandals have been rampant in recent years. Following reports last year of an actress being diagnosed with a sexually transmitted disease, Japan has tightened pre-production checks. AV star Ken Shimizu recently shared on his personal Twitter account that a new unspoken rule has been introduced for male AV actors before filming, one that is not only extremely shameful but also requires even top-tier actors like Shimizu to comply.
It turns out that to ensure the physical and mental health of the actors, the Japanese AV industry has recently implemented a strict new rule: before filming, actors must have their private parts smelled by other actors or the AV director. The photo shows Shimizu's private parts being smelled before and after filming to check for any odor; the entire scene is quite humiliating.
If a male actor is detected to have an unusual odor in his genitals, he must shower and clean himself again. If the smell persists, he may be replaced for safety reasons. Besides checking for odor in his private parts, AV actors are also required to prepare a sexually transmitted disease report from within the past month before each filming session, making it a very strict process.
Although this examination procedure is quite cumbersome, Ken Shimizu himself strongly agrees with it. Shimizu once recounted a terrifying experience early in his career on a television program: an actress forgot to bring her "health check form," forcing him to go on set anyway. To his surprise, when he opened her genitals, green fluid was flowing out, followed by a foul seafood smell.
Sensing something was amiss, Shimizu Ken looked at the director with pleading eyes, only to be asked to stick out his tongue and "lick it." Thinking, "What the heck, I'll lick it!" he thought. Unexpectedly, the actress's manager later confessed that she had "gonorrhea and syphilis," which terrified him so much that he went home to brush his teeth and rinse his mouth. Fortunately, a hospital check-up revealed nothing, but the incident left a deep scar on his mind, one he couldn't forget. Therefore, now with these extra checks, Shimizu Ken feels that this regulation can better protect himself and others, but he also jokingly remarks that this is part of the industry's madness.
